Respect is honor or admiration towards another person for a particular quality that you like in them. This is a smaller variant of love. There are no tiffs involved in this as in love. Unlike love, you will be always sure if you have respect for someone or you don’t. With time, respect also grows or diminishes like a money plant that is believed to grow only if its master is rich.
Respect is like a two way lane in any relationship that we come across, be it professional or personal. You can earn respect only when you can give respect to the other person. Let us imagine that you are driving on a two way lane without a divider in between. You and the driver coming from the opposite side, can remain on the road safely only if both of respect the space in which you drive.
I feel that respect is also cyclic. You can give respect to another person only if he is worthy of that respect, similarly you can earn respect only if you are a respectable person. Respect is not something that can be begged, bought or ordered. Respect got by such means is either temporary or a feigned. Respects becomes a commodity in such cases which only the rich can buy instead of being a quality in someone.
You can see for yourself what difference respect makes by adding or removing it in every new acquaintance that you make. Important things we need to respect in the opposite person are age, knowledge, principles and privacy.
If people start respecting each other, then the world would be a wonderful place to live in. This can happen only if people become tolerant and realize the importance of co-existence. Gone would be the wars and so many decimations which we often witness these days. Even the Almighty might revoke plans of doomsday after seeing such harmony among his creations.
